Level of Insulation

Trying to figure out which insulation level is the right fit for your home and your budget? Are you more concerned about keeping the temperature just right, or do you want a door that's thicker and stronger? While we can do other options if you ask, here are the three types of door construction that most people go for:

1. One-Layer; Non-Insulated

The most economical option, the non-insulated door will be one layer of steel with a hollow backing and will not provide temperature control.

2. Two-Layer; Insulated; Polystyrene

The two-layer insulated door will be a layer of steel and then a high-quality layer of insulation on the interior. It will come with a vinyl backing and will provide mid-grade insulation.

3. Three-Layer; Insulated; Polystyrene (Best Seller)

This door is our favorite pick and our best seller! It will have a layer of steel on the front, a high-quality polystyrene insulated interior, and another layer of steel on the back for exceptional insulation and durability. Having the added layer of steel on the back will help prevent knicks and scratches that may occur with its two-layer counterpart.

4. Three Layer; Insulated; Polyurethane (Highest Insulation Factor)

This door is for those that would like an extremely high insulation factor. You may want to choose this door if you have converted the garage to a room, if you do lots of work in the garage, or if you store temperature sensitive materials in the garage. For this door to make a difference, the garage will need to be highly insulated and sealed as well. The extreme insulation may help to reduce energy costs by keeping the garage cool in the summer months and warm in the winter months.
